Bertolini's Announces First Annual IFD Pasta Cook-off
Indianapolis Firehouses Vie for Bragging Rights with Original Italian Dishes
Though they're best known for working together, Indianapolis fire fighters now have the opportunity to square off against each other in the first annual IFD pasta cook-off, sponsored by Bertolini's of Circle Centre.
Before the contest officially begins on Aug. 14, Bertolini's invites individual firehouses to stage their own internal cook-offs to determine the best Italian entrée to enter into competition. Then, in round one of this three-round showdown, Bertolini's will accept entries from each firehouse's best dish. Entries will be judged on flavor, authenticity and creativity.
From each group, one winning firehouse will move onto the final competition on Thursday, Aug. 23. The three remaining entries will be judged on flavor, authenticity, creativity, presentation and quality of preparation. A panel of judges, made up of local chefs, media and IFD representatives will rate each of the above categories on a one to five scale, where five is best.
After the judges select a winner, members of the three finalist firehouses will enjoy a family-style Italian dinner hosted by Bertolini's. In addition to winning a plaque declaring their victory, the winning house will also invite local families displaced by fire to join them. The first runner-up house will serve the winning firehouse's dinners — the third place house gets dish duty.
